Things Finally Getting Back Into Rythm

We are finally getting a little normalcy back into our lives.  Okay,  so as normal as a farm life can be anyway.  For the last week, I've been able to be on 2 feet, both in shoes and unless out on uneven ground I can maneuver without the aid of any crutch or cane.  How very thankful I am for that.  It's still stiff & slow, but that's okay.  It just takes me a little longer to get where I am going and hopefully that will continue to improve.  We had great spring crops of strawberries, asparagus, radishes, and lettuce.  I was able to put up several jars of strawberry jam and froze a few bags of strawberries.  Now onto summer crops.  Last week our garden had a lot of produce to supply us for Farmers Market.   I spent all of last Wednesday morning picking and prepping produce for Market, I can definitely say I was sore, and it was taxing on my foot/ankle but it sure felt GOOD!  I felt productive, thankful I could be out there for hours.  I took a minute and just looked around, thankful for all the planting my husband did while I was down and amazed at how wonderful everything was producing for the rough start we had to spring.  We took an extra day about a week ago and spent it tilling, planting some fall crops, weeding and doing some other re-seeding.  It was a long, full day, but for the time being anyway, the garden plots are officially full.  Other than some radish, lettuce, spinach, peas, carrots, beets for Sept/Oct harvest, everything else is in and sprouted.  What a wonderful feeling!  This time I was even able to help - okay, other than the tilling that is.  I'm not quite up to that yet.
Our last pen of young chickens is starting to give us a few pullet eggs a day, we are looking forward to regular laying from the girls.  It seems these days we can't keep up with the demand for good fresh farm eggs.
Crafts at the Farmers Market have been selling well.  I had a lot of crochet time when I was healing which turned into a lot of crochet-top towels.  I'm finally getting some time back at the rug looms and hope to get several more things made before craft season.  I want to find some time to get a couple more batches of soap made, and it's time to replenish my re-milled scrubber soaps.   Compared to last year there has been more of an interest in soy candles this summer.  Sometimes candles don't do as well in hot weather, but this year I've been making candles pretty regularly.  I just had a request for a couple of new scents and hope to turn those into candles the first of the week.
I will be canning our first batch of green beans tomorrow morning.  We enjoyed a big pot with beans, smoked sausage, onions, and potatoes today.  That sure makes for a wonderful meal.  I hope to get back out with the camera and add a few new "current season" photos this week.  We finally had a little rain and cooler temps this weekend, it was quite refreshing.  It will make for a lot of mowing for my husband as soon as it dries out this week.  We hope everyone is getting a chance to enjoy some beautiful summer weather.  For those of you that are local, we hope to see you at the Sagamore West Farmers Market one day soon.  Stop in and say hello.
