March in Indiana
It is hard to believe waking up this morning that we are supposed to be in the 50's by this weekend. This morning, mother nature had dumped about 5 wet heavy inches of snow upon us. The most snow at one time for the last couple of years. We had escaped this winter with no more than a few inches at any one time, and not very often. This is definitely good for replenishing the moisture we were short during the drought last year. They are saying our water tables are just about back to normal. Looking out the window first thing this morning, it just doesn't seem right that we've been starting seed and getting row cover equipment set aside, waiting a few weeks to be able to start planting. I'm sure by this weekend with sun and 50's, it will seem once again like spring is right around the corner. The birds were taking cover under the heavy branches of the bushes out front, waiting for the bird feeders to be filled. It is a pretty snow, and probably a good thing that it is a wet/heavy one. The winds have been whipping around overnight and this morning. The drifting could definitely be much worse. I had forgotten what it was to trudge thru in chore boots however. I am fortunate to be able to stay home today. I spent some extra time out in the barn this morning and have plenty to keep me busy inside for the day. I treasure days like this! Last night was sausage soup with spaetzle noodles and english muffin bread....hmmm, what will tonight's menu be? I'll have to think on that one a bit.
